THIS ARROGANT BRIDE HAD NO IDEA THE FLORIST SHE SLAPPED WAS HER FIANCÉ'S MOTHER

The heavy clay pot shattered against the marble steps of the altar, sending a shockwave of dark soil and crushed white rose petals across the pristine satin of the aisle runner. The sharp, wet slap echoed through the vaulted rafters of the chapel, instantly cutting off the soft organ music that had been filling the room.

Vanessa stood at the center of the altar, her breathing shallow and fast beneath her heavy lace veil as her manicured hand remained suspended in the air. Her face was contorted with a cold, performative outrage meant to solidify her new high-society status in front of the three hundred elite guests watching from the pews.

"How dare you ruin my entrance," Vanessa hissed, her voice carrying clearly through the sudden, suffocating silence of the sanctuary. "These flowers were supposed to be placed an hour ago, not dragged past my dress by some clumsy worker who can't even look where she’s going."

The elderly florist remained on her knees in the dirt, her worn hands pressed against her reddening left cheek where the heavy silver rings on Vanessa’s fingers had left deep, angry marks. She didn't cry out; she simply bowed her head lower, her thin shoulders shaking under her faded wool cardigan as she tried to gather the broken stems.

A sharp gasp broke from the front row of pews, followed by the sound of heavy, frantic footsteps rushing down the aisle from the groom's dressing room. Julian pushed past the wedding coordinator, his face entirely devoid of color as his eyes locked onto the elderly woman sitting in the soil.

He didn't look at Vanessa, and he didn't look at the ruined lace of her dress. He dropped to his knees directly into the wet mud, his custom tuxedo trousers soaking through instantly as he pulled the fragile woman into a fierce, protective embrace.

"Mom," Julian choked out, his voice cracking with a raw, agonizing disbelief that made the entire front row of guests lean forward in their seats. "Mom, look at me. Are you okay?"
