The True Architect of the Legacy

The sound of the slap didn't just rattle the hanging copper pots; it seemed to dry up the humid, steam-heavy air of the restaurant’s private kitchen. Clara stumbled backward, her hand flying to her stinging cheek where a deep crimson mark was already beginning to bloom beneath her kitchen whites.

Valeria didn't look down at the scattered herbs or the broken porcelain bowl on the floor. She casually wiped a speck of sauce from her silk sleeve, her laughter sharp and hollow as she looked toward the swinging double doors. "You lack discipline, darling," she said into the silence of the staff. "The menu specifically called for a reduced glaze, not this amateur soup. Consider it a lesson in execution."

The doors burst open, and Mateo strode into the light of the prep station, his tailored coat unbuttoned, his face set in a hard, rigid line. Valeria’s smile sharpened instantly, her hand dropping back to her side as she stepped forward to greet him. "Mateo, love, you're just in time. The kitchen is a total disaster tonight. I'm having the head chef replaced before the main course."
