The Sovereign's Shadow

The royal dining hall fell into an immediate, suffocating silence.

Beneath the soft, flickering glow of golden candlelight, the elite guests sat perfectly frozen, their forks suspended in mid-air. Orange sauce slowly dripped down the pristine white marble floor from the shattered pieces of the porcelain plate.

At the head of the table, Victoria stood with her chest heaving, her floral designer dress standing out sharply against the absolute stillness of the room.

“I don’t care what excuse you have!” Victoria hissed, her voice cutting through the silence like ice as she pointed a manicured finger directly into the older woman’s face. “You ruined my evening, and you will clean it up on your knees like a good maid!”

The elderly woman, Eleanor, stood entirely paralyzed. Her hands trembled violently against her white apron, and tears rolled down her wrinkled cheeks, staining the fabric. She didn't shout back; she only lowered her head as the quiet judgment of the high-society guests weighed down on her.

Then—

BOOM!

The heavy oak doors of the dining hall flew open with a resounding echo.

The sound of confident, heavy footsteps shattered the tension as Julian Vance—the powerful CEO whose conglomerate financed the very estate they were sitting in—strode into the room. His sharp gray suit and commanding presence instantly drew every eye, but his focus immediately locked onto the crying woman in the apron.
