The Shattered Registry of the Imperial Suite

The quiet, rhythmic click of a security guard's heavy leather boots crossing the polished marble floor was the only sound left in the cavernous room. A single white rose petal, dislodged from the scattered bouquet during the altercation, rolled slowly across the stone before settling against the base of a towering crystal champagne tower.

The groom, Thomas, kept his hand frozen at his side, his fingers still vibrating from the force of the impact. His tailored silk tuxedo caught the brilliant glare of the tracking lights, casting long, frantic reflections across the pale, unblinking faces of his family's primary corporate investors.

"This is an administrative misunderstanding," Thomas stammered, his voice dropping into a flat, restricted whisper that failed to hide the sudden, sharp tremor in his chin. "The logistics registry for the floral display was finalized by the committee yesterday morning. This individual was not cleared on the VIP guest manifest."

The old man, Mr. Vance, didn't reach for a handkerchief to soothe his bruised cheek, nor did he look down at the delicate fabric of his torn work jacket. He stood with his spine perfectly straight, his hands resting lightly on his lapels with the calm, unhurried grace of a chief executive reviewing a routine quarterly balance sheet.
