The Legacy Written in Liquid and Marble

The dark brown puddle of cold espresso didn't just spread; it seeped into the grout lines of the pristine white marble, staining the aisle like an unwashed sin. The mother-in-law, Victoria, kept her hand extended, her fingers still shaped from the violent flick of her wrist that had knocked the silver serving tray right out of the woman's hands.

"Clean it," Victoria commanded, her voice cutting sharply through the soft prelude music coming from the organ loft. "Every single drop. And keep your eyes on the stone, girl. My son's wedding day isn't an opportunity for a common server to audition for his attention."

The bride, Chloe, let out a sharp, high-pitched giggle, her diamond-encrusted veil rustling as she leaned into her bridesmaids. "Honestly, mother, the venue promised us professional staff, not daytime soap opera extras. Look at her. She’s frozen."

The waitress didn't answer. She slowly sank to her knees, her simple black uniform jacket straining against her shoulders as she pressed a white cloth napkin into the dark, sweet liquid. She didn't look up at the cameras, nor did she flinch when a drop of the sticky fluid splashed onto the cuff of her starched sleeve. Her face remained entirely devoid of the tears the front row was waiting to see.

"Madam Chairwoman... please forgive this humiliation!"

The heavy oak doors of the sanctuary didn't just open; they bounced against the stone walls as Julian Vance, the managing director of the entire Global Heritage hospitality group, sprinted down the aisle. His black bow tie was crooked, his breathing ragged as he ignored the velvet ropes and dropped straight into the wet puddle beside her, his expensive trousers soaking up the brown liquid without a single thought.

The mother-in-law’s hand fell to her side, her mouth opening slightly as she recognized the man who had personally signed the exclusive rental agreement for the cathedral. "Mr. Vance? What on earth are you doing? This servant—"

"Silence!" Julian roared, his face turning a deep, furious crimson as he held out a trembling hand to help the woman up. "You are speaking to Elena Vance. She doesn't work for this venue. She owns the land beneath your feet and every bank that holds your family’s debt."
