The Fury of the Black Sedan

The sound of aluminum slamming against polished marble echoed through the two-story atrium, sharp and violent as a gunshot. The wheelchair spun completely out of control, its rubber wheels screeching before it tipped sideways against the base of a massive marble pillar. I hit the floor hard, the impact radiating through my shoulder as I slid across the slick stone, my useless legs twisting tangled beneath the overturned metal frame.

Above me, the woman in the white pantsuit didn't even blink. She slowly smoothed down her lapels, looking down at me with a cold, predatory satisfaction that seemed perfectly at home beneath the crystal chandeliers. Around us, a dozen hotel patrons and uniformed bellhops instantly locked their eyes onto the floor, their faces turning to stone as they deliberately chose to see nothing at all.

"A person like you doesn’t belong here," she said, her voice dropping into a venomous whisper that carried perfectly across the vast, silent lobby.
