THE EX-BOYFRIEND MOCKED HER WEDDING DRESS... THEN THE STORE MANAGER BENT LOW

The crisp click of the leather portfolio closing was the only sound that broke the sudden, icy stillness of the bridal salon. The low, mocking chuckle that had been rumbling in the ex-boyfriend’s throat vanished instantly, his smirk freezing into a rigid, awkward mask.

Michael took a slow step forward, his hand dropping from his new girlfriend’s waist as his eyes moved from the sleek gold logo on the manager's breast pocket to the document resting on the velvet vanity table.

"Wait a minute," Michael said, his voice dropping into a defensive, strained register. "Julian, what are you talking about? 'Buy the brand'? This is a heritage house. Her family runs a mid-tier real estate agency in the suburbs. She can't even clear the deposit on a custom veil."

The store manager, Mr. Laurent, didn't look back at him. He kept his posture perfectly straight, his gloved hands folded over his coat as he maintained a deep, formal angle of respect toward the woman in the mirror.

"The acquisition papers were finalized by the central board at noon, Mr. Vance," Mr. Laurent said, his tone carrying the smooth, professional sharpness of an executive delivering an eviction notice. "As of thirty minutes ago, Miss Sterling holds the controlling interest in the global parent company. Including this flagship boutique."
