THE ARROGANT SOLDIER STRUCK A COLD WOMAN... THEN THE GENERALS ENTIRELY FROZE

The heavy stainless-steel tray clattered onto the linoleum floor, sending a spray of white rice and broth across the polished combat boots of the surrounding troops. A thick, suffocating silence fell over the base cafeteria, the ambient noise of clinking utensils and low chatter vanishing in an instant. Three hundred enlisted soldiers froze mid-meal, their eyes locked on the corner table.

Corporal Dung leaned over the table, his knuckles still resting on the aluminum edge where he had just slammed his hand. A malicious, superior smirk pulled at the corner of his mouth as he looked down at the woman in the plain, unbadged olive-drab fatigue jacket. "You're in my seat, private," Dung sneered, loud enough for the entire platoon to hear. "Clean up the mess, pick up your tray, and get out of my sight before I make you."

The woman didn't flinch. She stood up slowly, her movements deliberate and calm. She looked down at the dark stain blooming across her plain cotton shirt, then raised her eyes to meet his. Her gaze wasn't filled with the terror Dung was accustomed to seeing in new recruits; it was a flat, deep obsidian, completely devoid of emotion.

"You have exactly five seconds to apologize," she said, her voice a low, steady baritone that carried a strange, chilling authority through the quiet hall.

Dung laughed, a harsh, barking sound, looking back at his buddies for approval. "Apologize to a nobody? I don't think so."

He lunged forward, throwing a heavy, practiced right hook aimed straight at her jaw.
