THE ARROGANT FAMILY HAD NO IDEA THE FAILURE WAS A DEEP-COVER CHIEF AGENT

The gentle crashing of the waves against the shore did not even vibrate as the sharp, mocking voice cut through the solemn notes of the military trumpet. At the edge of the beachside memorial service, the quiet murmur of uniform-clad guests and the rustle of the coastal wind died away into an immediate, suffocating silence.

"You don't belong in the front row," the mother, Beatrice, hissed, her voice dropping into that flat, performative cadence she used when she wanted to humiliate Olivia in front of an audience. Her siblings nodded along, smirking behind their black designer sunglasses as the mother pointed a rigid finger toward the back bleachers. "You vanished for ten whole years, ignoring every family milestone while we built our corporate registry. You are a complete disgrace and a failure, and you don't deserve to sit among heroes."

Olivia stood perfectly still, tears streaming down her face as she suffocated under a decade of pent-up family judgment. She didn't scream, and she didn't lose her composure, fiercely defending the hidden sacrifices she had made in the dark, even as her own flesh and blood treated her like absolute trash.
